Whetstone Beer Co. – Brattleboro, VT

Just around the corner from the last, so-called, “brewery”, we found this awesome real brewery sitting right on the Connecticut River bordering New Hampshire. This picturesque tap room has awesome views of the mountain, river, a bridge and and believe it or not, sits right on the state line resulting in half the brewery in VT and the other half in NH. We ordered a flight of Off The Rails american IPA, Rug Life red ale, Whetstoner session IPA, 10 Year amber lager and Updog stout. All the beers were great but the stout really stood out with smooth hints of gingerbread.

Hermit Thrush Brewery – Brattleboro, VT

It’s not too often that we run into an “all sours” brewery but here we are. Obviously, sour anything but candy is not good and that stands true for beer – if that’s what you want to call it. Since we parked, paid the meter and stopped in, we decided to go ahead and try the Party Jam passion fruit and the Green SIPA. Just as you can imagine, very sour! Yuck.

Meier’s Creek Brewing – Syracuse, NY

The last stop on our Sunday Funday mini tour in Syracuse does not disappoint. The finale flight treated us to the Summer Pilsner, Et Tu Brut? champagne style IPA, Bark Twice If You’re In Milwaukee west coast IPA and Cryo Chamber hazy IPA. We were curious about the Brut since we never heard of a champagne beer other than Miller High Life but it was acutally pretty good.

Middle Ages Brewing – Syracuse, NY

This medieval-themed brewery has an enormous selection of over two dozen beers on tap and another dozen in cans for taking home. After our third brewery we’ve decided Syracuse knows how to make beer. Our flight of Late Knight imperial IPA, Epiphany german lager, Storm The Castle hazy IPA and Syracuse pale ale confirmed it.

Willow Rock Brewing – Syracuse, NY

This hidden gem tucked back in an industrial complex has a huge selection of nearly two-dozen beers. Lots of variety from light to really dark and everything in between. We did a 5 beer flight of Orange Creamsicle imperial IPA, Jim brown ale, Half In The Bag american IPA, Bear Ninja Cowboy imperial smoked scotch ale and Junk Baller india pale ale. The standard was a flight of 6 beers but we only went with 5 since we wanted to do two more breweries. All the beers were tasty except the Bear which was a little too smokey for our liking.

Buried Acorn – Syracuse, NY

Our first stop for Sunday-funday in upstate New York bring us just a mere 4 minutes from the local Moose where our bus is parked. They don’t offer flights but they do serve 5 oz. pours so we made our own “flight” of Good Views czech pils, Schfifty helles lager, Hot Whip IPA and Wackaloon marzen. All four beers were awesome making it difficult to choose a favorite. They had a belgium blonde named 1000 Tiny Michael Jackson’s Break Dancing In Your Mouth but we didn’t try it!

Cloven Hoof Brewing – Ashtabula, OH

Good luck trying to pronounce the name of this lakeside town! We rolled in to this small town brewery after a 5 hour drive and were pleasantly surprised how good the beers are. We drank a flight of Like An Everflowing kolsch, Buddy-O New Zealand lager, Bridge Is Down brown ale and Running With The Lawnmowa IPA with the being our favorite since it tasted a lot like a west coast IPA.

GOTL Brewing – Geneva, OH

More like a seaside restaurant than a brewery, this place sits right on Lake Erie in the heart of the summer tourist scene. They only offered two beers of their own and good thing we like them both. The Pale Ale and Amber Lager were spot-on with our chorizo dip and lobster corndogs.

Ope! Brewing – West Allis, WI

Flight of But Is It Traditional kolsch, The Perfect Screw-Driver milkshake IPA, Nouveau Telephone farmhouse ale and Ope C-Daisy session IPA. Large warehouse, kids, cornhole, stage for live music. What else is there to say??
