The next stop on our Cubs weekend takes us just a few blocks for a flight of Par 3 pale ale, Hazy IPA, Ski Bum IPA and Table Top pub stout. Yum, yum!

We are joined this weekend by our friends from Indiana, Joe & Jill. We kicked-off this 4th Of July weekend with a Lawn Cutter American wheat and Darwin’s Finch pale ale. Joe & Jill had the Telesto hazy IPA. The plan is to watch the Cubs play the Brewers tomorrow at American Family Field. Can’t wait!!!
Corner neighborhood bar meets small batch brewery. Hamms, Old Style, Schlitz and six in-house craft beers. We drank a Tractorbrau farm ale and a Hallertau Smash IPA which were very good. The owner/brewmaster gave us a “tour” of his brewing operations. Nice guy!

This brewery came highly recommended for not only their beer but also their food. We started off with a flight of Traktor cream ale, Loonar Eclipse witbier, Star Chicken IPA and a Nitro Anger black IPA along side their Snifter Of Bacon. The bacon was just, well, bacon but the beers were awesome. We expected the bacon to be candied or something but the great beer made up for it.

We now have confirmation – its not the water. The last brewery had a funky aftertaste and we were afraid it was the city water but this place does not have that problem. They don’t offer flights and they have a short beers list so we picked the two beers we were pretty sure we going to be drinkable and get that nasty aftertaste from the last brewery out of our mouths. We quenched our thirst with a On Delay mexican lager and a Tiger Style rice lager – two freshing beers with no aftertaste!

So its been a couple of weeks since we have had craft beers but something is not right. We drove 30 minutes north into Michigan hoping to try some of the great beers everyone has been telling us about. A flight of Sumyunguy cream ale, Noonan kolsch, Reactor IPA, Amother One red ale and Peck’s porter were served up and wow – what a weird bunch of beers. We can’t quite describe the taste but its kinda got a sour ending to all the beers. We think it might be the water here in town so we are going to walk across the street to the next brewery to verify. Stay tuned!

So we arrived in Indiana and made it one day before going to a new brewery. It was a bit of a drive but what else do we have to do on a Monday night in LaPorte? Just 4 miles up the road from our favorite burger joint Redamak’s, this place doesn’t offer flights so we ordered up an Unfamiliar Faces hazy pale ale and a Nothing Snooty kolsch. The beers were good but a bit pricey: $8 for a 10 oz. pour on the hazy and $6 for a 10oz. pour on the kolsch. The owner/beertender hooked us up with a couple of tasters of the Edelweiss czech lager and the Mitten Life rustic american lager which made up for the short pours.

This last stop on our mini-tour brings us to this nice brewery offering up a decent variety of tasty beers. We got a little outside our box and ordered their Blueberry Crumble fruit beer, Coconut Cream Pie milkshake pale ale, Wainbows pale ale and Dad Jokes IPA. We weren’t a big fan of the fruit beer but the Cream Pie was awesome. A beer-lovers substitution for the real thing! We also ordered the Chorizo cheese dip and the Double Smash Burger which were awesome as well and of course had to wash them down with Lil’ Kolsch.

After 535 or so breweries, we have found another first. Its hard to believe someone hasn’t thought of this yet. A brewery on a golf course! We sat on the patio watching the hacks hit their balls around the course and sipped on a Vienna Lager, Kolsch, West Coast IPA and Smash IPA flight. The clouds rolled in and cooled things off enough to enjoy the breeze and beers.

Another 5 minute drive brings us to this funky little brewery with live music and a food truck parked outside. Lot’s of picnic tables and shade but too hot for us to sit outside for fear we will start sweating-out all the alcohol from last night. We sat down inside in the AC and enjoyed 4 oz. rounds of the Holey Jeans blueberry wheat, Duke cream ale, New Jersey vanila amber ale and Iron Eagle NEIPA. Hands down, the wheat was the best since this is the first beer we ever had that has a lemon-sugar rim that complimented the hint of blueberry.
