Chesterton Brewery – Chesterton, IN

Our 2nd and final stop of the day brought us hope. At this military/veteran themed tasting room, we were able to sit inside and not only enjoy our beers but also get a snack from the food menu. We started off with an Irish Ale and a Take Back 90 Min IPA long side of their chips & beer cheese – YUM!. Then we moved on to the main course of a smoked chicken sandwich and a catfish sandwich washing them down with Red Dawn ale. All-in-all, great beer, great food and nice people. This place is a must visit if you are in northwest Indiana!

Hunter’s Brewing – Chesterton, IN

Captains Log Day 75: we are still on lock-down at our 1st stop in northern Indiana. This brewery met us at the door with a small window to place your order. We opted to take home two 6-packs of their beer; the Theadsplitter IPA and the Simcoe pale ale. Both were a little more hoppy than what we like so the sixpacks lasted a long time in the refrigerator!

Rad Brewing – Indianapolis, IN

Since we have not been actually drinking our beer at each brewery on today’s tour, were were able to visit five breweries instead of the normal four that we usually limit ourselves to in one day. Our last stop was a pretty cool place just a little north and off the “Shelby trail” we have been on for the last four stops. In reminiscence of my fond memories of the many trips I made to the Indy 500 events, I felt obligated to order up a growler of Hinchtown Hammerdown pils in honor of the Indy driver James Hinchcliff. As in his driving career, it didn’t disappoint and earned a checkered flag.

Upland Brewing – Indianapolis, IN

Interesting thing about this Indy tour is all of the breweries we are visiting are along Shelby Street making it easy to find them without a lot of driving around. This brewery was only offering canned beers and growlers so we opted for the six-pack of their Champagne Velvet and a growler of the Campside pale ale to enjoy later.

Garfield Brewery – Indianapolis, IN

The 2nd stop on our Indy tour, this brewery was offering something we rarely see – “walkies”. So we ordered up one of the Friday American ale and a Saint Catherine Vienna lager then went on our way with a couple of small, plastic cups filled with refreshing beer to quench our thirst.

Books & Brews – Indianapolis, IN

So we decided to make a stop in Indy on our way back to LaPorte. The breweries were just stating to open up due to Covid in Indiana so we checked out this book-themed brewery on the south side. Their menu was pretty limited and they were only filling growlers so we just ordered up one. The problem is by the time we got back to the bus, we had forgotten what were ordered and it wasn’t written anywhere on the bottle. We think it was the Nancy Brew & The Hoppy Boys pale ale which was very tasty.

Gallant Fox Brewing – Louisville, KY

Our last stop before heading back to the bus to open up a couple of cold ones we had wrapped up in the back seat, this brewery was only offering 64 oz. growler fills so we decided to just get the Sweet Steve American Pale Ale and not take the chance of getting two growlers we may not like. In hind-sight, we should have gotten 2!

Apocalypse Brew Works – Louisville, KY

The good thing about a city with a large downtown area, the breweries are only minutes from each other. Our next stop for the day had us walking away with a crowler of Creamation cream ale and Atomic amber ale. Toq bad the beer-tender wouldn’t provide samples of these beer as they really weren’t a couple of our favorites.

Against The Grain Brewing – Louisville, KY

Our second stop of the day brought us to the next brewery just 4 blocks from the last one. Located in the heart of downtown, this eclectic tasting room served up a short list of brews that weren’t really our style. So we made the rookie mistake of ordering two 4-packs based on the labels of the cans (I was tempted to post pics of the cans since the graphics were so absurd) . Sometimes mistakes pay off! We later enjoyed the Lager and Brown Ale.
