Smiling Toad Brewery, Colorado Springs, CO

This brewery recently relocated to this location so everything is still in boxes but they are serving up the good stuff. Brewing only 6 beers, the owner provided us some insight to the local beer scene. We drank his Anything Gose and Runner’s red ale. Delicious!

Shamrock Brewing – Pueblo, CO

Yep, you guessed it. It’s an Irish pub and brewery all wrapped into one vintage bar in the heart of the downtown. They only offer a 1/2 dozen beers because they brew them in the back. We tried the Steel City Gold lager and the Irish Red ale. Both were pretty decent but nothing to get too excited over except for thei huge selection of Irish whiskeys.

Reservoir Brewing – Pueblo, CO

Located on the outskirts of town and named after the Pueblo Reservoir just 15 minutes away, this rustic little tap room not only serves up great beer but also tasty food prepared right behind the bar. We kicked off our Saturday afternoon with a Banshee Scottish ale and a Cherry Creamsicle cream ale on nitro along with a Cuban and a Veggie sandwich. Yummo!

Brues Alehouse – Pueblo, CO

Located along the historic downtown River Walk, this brewery serves up a nice, small selection of good beers along with food and a full bar. Not really our style of tap room but a cool, tranquil location for a Probation Helles lager and a Copper Vienna lager.

Walter’s Beer – Pueblo, CO

So this place is by far the oldest micro brewery we have ever visited. Opening in 1889, they have been serving Pueblo and the surrounding areas a long time. While their “pilsener” is their original beer, they have branched out with craft beers ranging from stouts to IPA’s. We kept it simple with the pils but got a little outside of our box with the Red, White & Blueberry wheat ale. The tap room is filled with vintage pictures and memorabilia dating all the way back to their inception. Pretty cool stuff!

Bierwerks Brewery – Woodland Park, CO

Well what a day! What started out as a trip to Taylor Park Reservoir to meet up with our friends Shawn and Stephanie for the weekend turned into a real cluster- f@#k. Two and a half hours from our destination and the bus decided it didn’t want to go any higher into the Rocky Mountains so we had to reroute back down the mountain and ended up here. Not a bad place to landed after a frustrating, white-knuckled day of driving. We washed it all away at this German inspired brewery with a Helles lager and a Dunkel lager.

Crane Brewing – Raytown, MO

Specializing in sours and goses, this place wasn’t really our style however, we did get both of their only IPA’s: Why Are There Boundaries and It’s Just A Phaze. A little more hoppy than what we like but still not too bad with a couple of pretzel rods.

3 Trails Brewing – Independence, MO

Our 1st stop during our one night stay in the Kansas City area brought us this fine brewery in a small, historic part of town right across the street from the courthouse. After what seemed to be a long days drive but actually only 4 hours, we wound down with a Square Ultra lager and a What A Ride nitro stout. Yummy!

Schlafly Brewing – St. Louis, MO

So this brewery has been around since 1991. We remember drinking their beer at the local pubs when we lived here back in 2002. The tap room is pretty cool but is layed out more like a restaurant than a tasting room. We enjoyed a Summer Lager and the Kolsch while sitting outside in the courtyard but it was eerily quite. You would expect more hustle and bustle on the streets since we were practically downtown. Weird.

Balter Beerworks – Knoxville, TN

A short drive from the last brewery in the heart of the historical downtown area, we checked this place out as the list of open breweries is pretty short on a Monday. Most breweries don’t open until Tuesday and some even Thursday. We were relieved to get a seat at a high-top in bar to watch some TV away from the brutal heat & humidity and sip on a Good Neighbor Kolsch and an Amberidfic amber ale.
