Trinity Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

We started off our last day of the “springs mini-tour” with a burger and a beer at this mountain side tap room on the very north end of the city. Our beer-tender had a little trouble getting the Soul Horkey Session ale poured but What It Is Kolsch had no trouble making its way into glass with just the perfect head. The Kolsch was a little sour but the Session was right on target. Make sure you order you burger medium well or it will come out mooing.

Pike Peak Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

So we discovered this place while trying to visit the now closed Field House brewery across the stree. This tap room is called the “lager house” even though they offer much more than lagers. Today was actually their grand opening so we got to be one of the first patrons to drink their Coroebus Marzen and their Blue Mesa Tropical Blonde ale. Best Marzen ever!

Gold Camp Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

Recently under new ownership, we got outside of our box on one of our beers today and had the beer-tender mix two beers together on the advice of a patron. Imagine this: peaches and chile peppers? Well, believe it or not, mixing the Peach Tea ale and the Green Chile Pepper cream ale was bad but the Rocker Box red ale was delicious. Not only did we get to drink a couple of good beers but we also got to learn a bunch about goats and farming from the patron that turned us on to the peach & chile beer.

Brass Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

Inspired by the top brass of our nation’s military, this tap room has pictures of military leaders and other stuff honoring our nation. We started our Friday afternoon off with the Jodie Call cream ale and the Berserker blonde stout. The blonde stout was surprisingly good – a dark, malty flavor in what looked like a Pilsner color.

Goat Patch Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

So we are starting to think this town has some really good breweries. We sat down to enjoy probably the best blonde and red ales we’ve had in a long time. Named after the owner who has a goatee and resembles a um, goat, we snackes on some pretzels and taking in the art for sale on the wall, we really liked the Blonde Ale and the It Takes A Tribe red ale. Maaah!

Storybook Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

The name says it all. A no-frills taproom decorated with books and beer. We thoroughly enjoyed the For Lisa Kolsch and the Little Red’s Rockin red ale. A bit of a drive north compared to the rest of the breweries we have been visiting but worth it.

Phantom Canyon Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

Known for their “award winning” food and great beer, you wouldn’t expect it when your walk in. We sat on the 2nd floor by the pool tables and watched out the window as it hailed outside. Funny thing about the weather in this area; where we come from the hail comes after the rain starts not the other way around. We started off with a pretzel which was just OK but the shepherd’s pie complimented by a Dos Luna’s and a Box Car ESB knocked it out of the park. The server was right – award winning food and great beer!

Local Relic Artisan Ale – Colorado Springs, CO

What a unique experience. The tasting room is an old church and is shared with 3 other vendors serving up food and wine. The beers were high on the sophistication scale but we took our chances and tried only a half-pour of the Cascadian Alt and the French Toast Brown ale served up in a wine glass. Not bad for a snack but definitely not something we could do a pint of.

Cerberus Brewing – Colorado Springs, CO

This brewery offers good beer AND good grub. Named after a dog of protection in Greek mythology, this place knocks it out of the park with both food and beer. We started things off with a trip to German town with the No Big Deal Kolsch and the Franconia Dunkle. Then we had the appetizer of Truffle Parmesan Pub Fries: freaking awesome! After filling up on the fries, we went all-in on the Trout sliders and the Lamb sliders. WOW! Out of this world. The beer cheese soup and the coleslaw w/ blue cheese sides were over the top. We wrapped things up by having an Infinity ESB. This place is a must-visit in the Colorado Springs area and ranks among the top 5 so far.

Fossil Craft Beer, Colorado Springs, CO

So we almost didn’t stop at this brewery had it not been for the owner of the last brewery. We told him we looked at this brewery’s website and beers were listed at $11 and $13. He called and confirmed they were only $6 so here we are. Drinking the Megalodon Blonde and Red Rock Amber, we sat outside around a barrel watching the cars drive by on Hwy 24 heading up the mountain to Woodland Park.
