Reaver Beach Brewing – Virginia Beach, VA

Our travels has brought us here to not only check out the local craft beer scene but to also visit family but due to a recent Covid exposure risk, the latter is not going to happen. So we start our two day advanture at a quaint brewery just 10 minutes from our campsite. Known for their sours, we stayed with what we like best: a House Lager and the Hammer Head american IPA. Yum!

Gaston Brewing – Fayetteville, NC

Our last stop of the evening brings us to a neat little brewery in the downtown historic district. We started out with the Jalapeno Popper Balls and washed them down with a Livin’ Lager and a Fit Shaced irish red. Then moved on to the main event of Little Vinny flatbread. Everything was awesome and a must-visit if you ever pass through Fayetteville.

Bright Light Brewing – Fayetteville, NC

So this brewery is a hole-in-the-wall, literally. We drove past it twice before finding a non-descript door in the building nook leading to the tasting room. But oh what a find! This “speakeasy” themed brewery serves up some mighty fine beer. We snuck out the back door onto a patio courtyard and sipped on our Soul’less Red lager and the Brown Irishman brown ale.

Mash House Brewing – Fayetteville, NC

Just a stones throw from Fort Bragg, this brewery & restaurant has only about 10 beers on draft. With a tasting room that has a windows-view of the brewhouse, we sat down for a Natural Blonde blonde ale and a Copperhead Red amber ale. Both beers were pretty decent and worth the 30 minute drive from the RV park to start the day.

Freehouse Brewery – Charleston, SC

Have you ever had deja vu? Pulling up to this brewery situated on the lowcountry, I could swear we’ve been here before but could find no evidence. Even walking in, it seemed like I’ve made the walk before. Known for their organic beers, we tried the Premium Lager helles lager and the Fore Y’All muni lager but the highlight was the mustard barbeque craft potato chips!

Commonhouse Aleworks – Charleston, SC

Not sure if we are suffering from writers-block or maybe its the news of the passing of our longtime friend Rube but not much to say about this place. Beer (Park Circle juicy pale ale & Toluca vienna lager), outside seating, nice weather. Life is short, life is fragile. So long my friend, see you again.

Indigo Reef Brewing – Charleston, SC

This beautiful, sunny afternoon starts out a neat little brewery tucked away in a commerce park east of town. We were their first customers when the doors opened at 4. Brewing up about a dozen beers, we thoroughly enjoyed the Hive Another honey cream ale and the Bottom Time german pils.

Bold City Brewery – Downtown Jacksonville, FL

So we visited their brewing operations location south of town a back in 2017 but thought we’d give the downtown location a try since it’s the only other place open other than the last. We weren’t disappointed! We got a little crazy and had a 50-50 mix of the Fluffy Banana nitro pastry stout w/ Killer Whale cream ale (called a Fluffy Whale) and a Brew-B-Q toasted lager. Both were out of this world!

Strings Sports Brewery – Jacksonville, FL

Captains Log Day 2 of the 2021 Tour and we will only be visiting one of nearly a dozen breweries in town since all the rest are closed on Monday’s. Located on the corner of 9th & Main downtown, this sports themed brewery has a great selection of traditional beers ranging from a pilsner to an imperial stout. We started out with the Best Kid On The Block pale ale & the Red Caps red ale then stuck around for a cheese & pretzel appetizer and the String Music lager & the Section 215 blonde ale. Everything was awesome!

Wicked Barley Brewing – Jacksonville, FL

This hip little brewery has over a dozen brews as well as an in-house kitchen serving a nice variety of burgers and sandwiches just right for a brewery. We didn’t eat from the kitchen but tried the Circle Ups pils and the Leftleg German pils from the beer menu. Awesome!
