3rd Planet Brewing – Niceville, FL

Can you say Chuck-E-Cheese? We pulled into the parkingl lot and figured something was up. Why were there nearly 100 cars in the lot at 5:30p on a Friday? Because this is a place where parents can drink and let their kids run wild in the “kid corral” outside the patio area. Why didn’t bars think of this 50 years ago – you know, a child play area inside the bar? We’ll let you think about that while you read about the beers. This place has a huge selelction of nearly 3 dozen beers to choose from. We sat in the four-seasons patio area and drank a pint of Post Brau marzen and Panhandle pale ale while watching the chaos unfold.

Strange Colt Brewing – Niceville, FL

It’s good to be back in Florida for the winter after being on the road for 6 months. After leaving New Orleans this morning, we dropped the motorhome at the truck stop and headed downtown to check out the brewery scene. This place offers about a dozen beers but there were only a couple that really interested us so we skipped the flight and went for a couple of regular pours of the War Horse dbl IPA and Draught Horse irish red. Both beers were really good!

Monday Night Brewing – Birmingham, AL

So we went to another Monday Night brewing in Atlanta but we are not sure if it is the same. This place is a nice repreve from the last two breweries that were full of football fans amd kids. We closed the day out with a Slap Fight west coast IPA and Attention To Detail vienna lager along with a round of their awesome taco’s.

Back Forty Brewing – Birmimgham, AL

CFB madness continues….this place is like a Chuck-E-Cheese’s with parents and kids. We got lucky and snagged a seat at the bar for a flight of Cart Barn Light cream ale, HotTosh west coast IPA, Naked Pig pale ale, Backtoberfest marzen and Truck Stop Honey brown ale. The brown ale was the best since well, we are staying at a truck stop!

Avondale Brewing – Burmingham, AL

This is definitely more than just a brewery! We arrived to discover Alabama was playing Tennessee and the place was packed watching it on a huge 20’x40′ screen. They only had two of their own beers left so we had their Spring Street Saison and A-OK IPA then took in all the sad fans as TN did a number on them.

Ghost Train Brewing – Birmingham, AL

The last time we were here in Birmingham was 2017 when we passed thru during the Talladega race. We only hit two breweries on that trip but we swear we hit more than that when we met up with an old work collegue. This place was a little hard to get to since Maps was trying to drive us down a bike path. We thought about doing it with the Jeep but chose to find our own way here for a flight of Select Blonde ale, Gulf Coast IPA, FJ Hazy IPA and Judge Juicy IPA. All of them were pretty tasty but the blonde was a little bland.

Goodwood Brewing – Frankfort, KY

We visited this brewing during Covid in Louisville but were only able to buy canned beer to-go out the front window. Today, we are at the satellite brewery where they are serving up well over a dozen fine brews in pint glasses in the tap room. After a hectic day of travel, we bellied up to the bar and enjoyed the Louisville Lager and their seasonal Oktoberfest. Both beers were great as was the Drunken Chicken sandwich & seasoned fries. We even stuck around and had another round that included the Scottish Ale.

Court Avenue Brewing – Des Moines, IA

HOLY COW! We have never seen a flight that has 8 beers. At 5 oz. pours each, that is like 40 oz. of beer. The menu only has 10 beers so we drank all but 2 which were a kellerbier and a fruit beer. Our flight had all 5 of their core beers which were the Siesta lager, Couthouse Honey wheat, Honest Lawyer american IPA, Pointer brown ale and Earthbound NEIPA along with 3 seasonal beers of Proxima pale ale, Spacebound NEIPA and Tell Stories Better ESB. Quite honestly folks, these are some of the best beers we have ever had making it the best flight we have ever boarded. First Class upgrade with laydown seating and free wifi!

Big Grove Brewing – Des Moines, IA

Flights on steroids. These babies come four beers at a time and are 7oz. each pour. Just 5 oz. short of a regular beer! We boarded this jumbo jet and sat in seats Arms Race pale ale, West Main wheat, West Eddy american IPA and Royal Eddy imperial double IPA. The Royal was just that – royal!

Exile Brewing – Des Moines, IA

Half restaraunt – half brewery. Enter and turn right takes you to the family dining experience: enter and turn left takes you to beer city which is exactly where you want to be. We landed on a flight of Ruthie golden ale, Citra Sky hazy & juicy IPA, Coastal Cruiser west coast IPA and Oktoberfest marzen. The Coastal was a big hit considering it was a hazy and juicy – delicious.
