Holy City Brewing – Charleston, SC

By far the WORST brewery we have been to so far. I would call this a Chucky Cheese without the pizza. This place is filled with kids and a mother in parking lot changing diapers! Definitely not a tasting room although they do brew beer on site.  We ordered Holy City Pilsner and the House Lager but not sure what we got. There was live music and tents outside so maybe it was some sort of festival but the pool table was a twist?

Rusty Bull Brewery – Charleston, SC

By far the all-around neatest place we’ve been to yet! This place brews on site, had a food truck AND a cigar lounge! We had the Livin Easy which is a lager and the Bearded Tiger which is a cream ale.  The food truck called Baco’Me Crazy had assorted bacon inspired dishes including one of our beer-drinking favorite, candied bacon. They had a converted Airstream RV that served as the cigar lounge called Southern Smoke – vintage decorated with tin ceilings and of course leather lounge seating. Live music complimented the whole experience!

Eventide Brewing – Atlanta, GA

Located in an up-and-coming part of Atlanta, this musty smelling tasting room has an outdoorzy atmosphere with a classic feel. Offering only 6 beers ranging from Kolsch style to Irish Stout, we had both, finishing up with their Pale Ale. Aside from the unusual unshaven female patron standing at the end of the bar, this place has a relaxed atmosphere with darts and interesting pieces of artwork.

Good People Brewing Co. – Birmingham, AL

Located downtown Birmingham, this industrial themed brewery had several beers to choose from and they brew there own beer on site.  We had the Pale and the Urban Farmer beer.  They also had a food truck outside which we didn’t try and was located across the street from Regions Field.

Talladega Superspeedway

Sweet Home Alabama!

Expectations were high for the 4th stop on our tour and it did not disappoint. Famous for The Big One event along Talladega Blvd, this mecca of southern pride and hospitality was one for the record books. Joined in the infield by our friends Brian and Melissa from Florida, things started a little slow with rain and muddy conditions up until Friday but after that, it was GAME ON! Live entertainment (a concert by Charlie Daniels Band), food, plenty of adult beverages and of course the expected drunks doing and dressing CRAZY. Even if your are not a NASCAR fan, a week in ‘Dega is a must for everyone.

Flyway Brewery – Little Rock, AR

Believe it or not, this brewery is duck-themed, yes, DUCK themed! Actually, one of the owners is what they call a “ducker” who studied the migration patterns of birds that travel the Mississippi migratory route. Offering ales, stouts and a pilsner, the beer here is very good. They also have a kitchen that serves up wild-game based appetizers which were very unusual! We tried the Migrate Ale and AuDu Blonde, both of which were very good!

Lost Forty Brewing – Little Rock, AR

Beer garden with family style seating.  They brew onsite and we had the Bare Bones Pilsner and the Day Drinker Belgian Blonde.  They had a small one girl kitchen and everything that came out looked great.  We tried the smoked jalapeno pimenti cheese and crackers which was addictive!

Rough Tail Brewery – OKC/Midwest City, OK

A true tasting room, this place is simply outfitted to do one thing – serve their 6 draft beers. A no-nonsense brewery offering strickly ales varying from Pales to IPAs. Located in a remote commerical complex, the beer is brewed onsite in the back and served up by the friendly bartender to the local patrons. We had the Pale Ale and Wheat Dreams, both of which were very smooth with a snappy finish.

Twisted Spike – OKC

Shipping container themed brewery in the heart of downtown next to a train track, this place has 8 brews on tap ranging from Blonde Ale to Imperial Stout. The bar is actually made out of a 40′ shipping container! Great friendly atmosphere with TVs & music and a popcorn machine to snack on. We had the Dirty Blonde Sanchez and the Crew, both of which were great!
