Historically Hoppy Brewing – Jacksonville, FL

Books & board games – that was theme here. We bravely drove through the hood to get to this place for a Homage Hazy IPA and Redwing Red amber ale which they donate $1 to a Ukrainian humanitarian fund. The beertender had zero personality but did play some good 90’s grunge on the house sound system. We rocked out with a Sticky Fingers loaded fresh-cut fry bowl and a Therapy Session IPA. Very tasty.

Myrtle Ave Brewing – Jacksonville, FL

We have been to JAX numerous times and each visit they keep getting more breweries. We are camping at one of the new Love’s RV Stops which is basically dedicated parking spaces at their truck stops with full hook-ups. What a great idea since we usually park with all the truckers and dry camp. After a 1/2 day of work then a 1/2 day of driving, we cut the Jeep loose and headed 15 minutes into town to check out more new breweries. 1st stop is a family-friendly joint with a dozen beers, kids seating area inside for the little tykes and a play kitchen for the kids to bake cookies and have a tea-party. We had our own “tea” of Emerald Trail hazy IPA and Silver Lining west coast IPA. What a way to kick things off!

Coastal Empire Beer Co. – Savannah, GA

A true small warehouse brewery with a tap room located in an industrial park. No frills here – just bluegrass music and a dozen & a half good beers with outdoor seating and seating for socializing. We closed out the evening with a Southern Delight praline amber, a So It Goes hazy IPA and a six-pack of #SavParadeBeer irish red ale for the road.

Back River Brewing – Tybee Island, GA

Just 20 minutes east of Savannah off Hwy 80 and one block from the ocean, this beachy brewery caters to the tourist during the summer but today had a couple of locals that made the treck upstairs to partake in some liquid refreshmemt. We joined them at the bar on this cool & quiet afternoon to try out the About Lager Time golden lager and the Upstairs IPA along with a pretzel & beer cheese. The beer was just average but the locally baked pretzel was the highlight of the afternoon.

Hop Atomic Brewing – Savannah, GA

This swanky, artsy-fartsy brewery and pizza joint has a unique menu of brews and food. We started with a Are You Down Kentucky common and a How Deep Is Your Love hazy IPA along side the pimento cheese & woodfire bread. Yuuuuuumy! After a delicious first round and appetizer, we stuck around & had an Orange You Glad hazy IPA and a Herr P-Nut peanut butter marzen paired with their Hot Mess pizza that had spicy salami with pistachio’s. Yes, pistachios. Sounds weird but very tasty. Since we were getting outside our box, we took a 4-pack of Yippie-Ki-Yay imperial twinkie blonde stout to go. BOOM!

Camp Brewing – Hampton, GA

What’s up with all the plastic cups! Are we not all adults here? Our last stop for this race weekend is only 5 minutes from the track and is upstairs off an alley. They have a small selection of fine beers and a stage for live music on the weekend starting a 8 which is way past our bedtime on a school night. The Flint River cream ale and Backpacker Brown ale were a nice ending to the evening.

Awkward Brewing – Fayetteville, GA

After over 700 breweries, this is one we will remember. Located in what looks like a barn in someone’s backyard, this “garage operation” only has a few beers to choose from. We went with their Pseu-Me lager and the Awkward Phase hazy IPA which were really good then the beertender tempted us with a couple of tasters of the Don’t Worry Be Hazy and the Brr It’s Chili Stoutside. Those weren’t as good as the first two.

Senoia Beer Co. – Senoia, GA

What kinda brewery serves beer in plastic cups?! Just when we thought this place might be kinda cool, we were quickly questioning the legitimacy of this brewery. They offered a dozen beers mostly dark & high-octane so we tried a pint of the Rockhouse Rye Amber ale and two “flight-sized” of the Downtown Brown & Blueberry Cobler sour. Aside from the sharp edges from the plastic cups, the beers were pretty decent. Note to owner: grow up and get some glasses!

Pearl & Pine Brewery – Senoia, GA

Our 2nd race of the season brings us to the Atlanta Motor Speedway which we visited for the first time in 2020 but the race was cancelled due to Covid. Before the world shut down, we managed to visit a dozen or so breweries so this is our chance to check out all the new ones. This brewery is located about minutes northwest of the track in a quaint little town with a historic little main street. Opening in May of last year, we rolled in to this one-horse town and ordered the Loyal To The Game west coast pils and the Bier! Bier! marzen. Both beers were pretty good but had an odd after-taste due to being “gluten reduced” All 11 beers were either gluten reduced or gluten free. Don’t ask me how they remove the gluten!

Tipsy Unicorn’s Brewing – Edgewater, FL

Since today was a wash-out at the track for the Daytona 500, we decided to take a little road trip and travel 25 minutes south to check out this unique brewery. The name alone tells a story but the food is really out there. As the picture shows, we had a pickle flight and a couple of pints the Rivera’s Roost red ale and Holy IPA Bat Man. The pickles were a great snack with out tasty beers.
