Heavy Riff Brewing – St. Louis, MO

Guitar-based brewery with good food close to The Hill, we drank the Raglan Irish Red and the Worst Day APA. Both were very smooth and full of flavor. While not really a tasting room per se, this place had a warm inviting atmosphere that felt more like a bar than a brewery with a shuffle board and family friendly environment.

Civil Life Brewing – St. Louis, MO

Best German-based brewery we have been to! Excellent selection of traditional “biers” include a few from “over the pond”. Housed in a small, former manufacturing building, this place not only has great beers but also some cool entertainment (Deutschland games) and an outdoor bier garten to enjoy the great weather. We drank the wheat and the Goalden Ale (not a typo) which reminded me of the Berliner beer we drank during our trip to Berlin back in 2005.

Earthbound Brewing – St. Louis, MO

What an experience! Located in an up-and-coming part of town just west of the famous Soulard district, this place really does fit the description of “a hole in the wall”. If not careful, you will walk right by it. The tasting room looks more like a hallway with limited windows, seating and you guess it – beer. But don’t let the size fool you. We drank pints of the 2nd Lunch Pale ale and the beleive it or not, Chicken & Waffles. Both were surprizingly good and reasonably priced. Yes, this picture is a accurate depiction of the tasting room!

Two Plumbers Brewery – St. Charles, MO

Not sure if this is a brewery that has arcade games or an arcade that brews beer but all we can say is “wow”! Video games, pinball machines, juke box and even a phone booth, this place is by far is the most bazzarr brewery we have been to. Mostly a younger crowd that we guess is a later stop for most patrons, we sampled the Strawberry Pauline blonde and the Braunem Mantel brown ale.

Greer Brewing – Ellisville, MO

Located in what appears to be an old family restaurant building but actually was a retail lawnmower business, this place has about a dozen beers on the menu ranging from Hefe’s to Stouts. One of the few breweries we have visited that has a pool table, they also have “bier garten” style seating that compliments what we thought was the former use of this building. We had Old Dog Skip Vienna lager and the Caroline pale ale, both of which were full of flavor and had smooth finishes.

Steampunk Brewing – Chesterfield, MO

A unique tasting room inside of a home brewing retail store, this place has some rockin’ beer! A true small batch brewery, we drank the Zeppelin Kolsch and the Au Frau German blonde. Both were delicious and the service by the friendly bartender was excellent!

O’Fallon Brewery – Maryland Heights, MO

Surprizingly, all around a good brewery. Not only do they offer over a dozen traditional AND unique beers but also has a rockin’ kitchen! We drank the Gold and the Summer Blast blonde along with a yummy pretzel (with 3 dipping sauces) and delicious quesadilla with spicy sausage.

Six Mile Bridge – Maryland Heights, MO

Classic tasting room offering up a half dozen of traditional craft beers. We had the Irish Red Ale and the Bavarian Hefe – both were 5.2 to 5.5 in ABV and 15 to 20 in IBU’s. Brewing for exactly two years now, they keep to the basics on their selections.

Trailhead Brewing, St. Charles, MO

Opening in 1995, this is another brewery that was in business long before breweries became popular. We regularly visited this establishment back in 2002 when we lived in Creve Ceour and the beer hasn’t changed. Still serving up a small selection of craft beers and decent grub, we had the Trailblazer Blonde and the Trailhead Red along with the pretzel – all of which on a scale of 1 to 10, we would give it a 6.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

This was our second trip to the Brickyard but definitely not the best. The weather really put a damper on things with periodic rains limiting our outdoor activities at the campsite. We were conveniently located outside Turn 3 in the paved lot on 16th Street but we were surprised that the lot was less than half full and there was very little party activity going on. Since it was my birthday weekend, we made a trip into town to listen to some live music at my favorite blues bar, The Slippery Noodle. Both the Saturday race and the Sunday race were affected by weather but the finish of the Cup race did not disappoint with Casey Kahne holding on for his first win since 2014.
