Thin Man Brewing – Buffalo, NY

So don’t call us wimps since they offer an eight beer flight and we only ordered four. The problem is we haven’t had dinner yet and their menu of two-dozen beers was made up mainly of lagers and IPA so we figured why do more than that? We went with the Pils Mafia, Trial By Wombat NEIPA, Stachestrong west coast IPA and Zig Zag Child west coast IPA. Our favorite was the Stachestrong since they donate a $1 for every pint to brain cancer research and we even took a crowler home in memory of our good friend Christa.

Flying Bison Brewing – Buffalo, NY

Holy cannoli, this beer is good…..and cheap! This is by far the cheapest flight we have ever had: $8 for four beers and we even picked up a free sticker and a taster of their Blueberry Blonde and Aviator Red irish red ale. Voted best value for a flight by us, we enjoyed their Honey Kolsch, Juice Caboose IPA, Rusty Chain vienna lager and Holy Cannoli strong golden ale. The Holy tasted like a gingerbread cookie but our favorite of the six beers was the red.

Big Ditch Brewing – Buffalo, NY

Test: do you know why they call them “flights” of beer? Its a reference to a flight of stairs where each step takes you higher hence each beer goes from lighter to heavier. Our “first step” started with the Low Bridge golden ale then we stepped up to a 100% NY pale ale, then Dayburner IPA then, Excavator rye brown ale and finally finishing with a Make Me Wanna Stout. Whew, we were never one for stairs!

Twisted Rail Brewing – Geneva, NY

Now playing at the former downtown movie theater is good beer. This theater turned brewery has their fermenting vessels down where the movie screen was located and two bars up where the seats used to be. The beertender was overwhelmed and in the weeds so we made his job simple and only ordered a couple of pints of Lake To Lake Lager and Theater Juice IPA although everything on the menu looked drinkable. We also had some deep fried mushrooms which were your typical frozen variety and chicken nacho’s which were nothing special. Beer good – food meh!

Lake Drum Brewing – Geneva, NY

Right in the heart of downtown overlooking Seneca Lake, this small, oddly decorated brewery is definetly small-batch. We bellied-up to the bar and ordered a Debbie blonde ale, Little Eazy lager, G-Town Brown ale and a Cicado Haze NEIPA then settled in and listened to some vintage mellow groves from the vinyl turntable the beertender was spinning behind the bar. We were intrigued about the Spruce Tip since we had some in Biddeford so we tried a little and ended up buying a 4-pack just for fun.

WeBe Brewing – Geneva, NY

Day 2 of our New York mini tour brings us to the Finger Lakes Region where we found this nice little brewery cranking out a dozen beers for any taste. We got slighly adventurous with a flight of Forget Me Not west coast IPA, Cream Of The Crop toasted coconut cream ale, Juicy Secrets DIPA and Scotch On Seneca scotch ale. The coconut was a little overbearing but the west coast hit the spot.

C.H. Evans Brewing – Albany, NY

Claiming to be brewing beers since 1786, we were wearing down quickly even though this place also serves six beer flights so we threw caution to the wind and ordered the Capital Ligh lager, Quackenbush Kolsch, Amber All The Way red ale, Kick-Ass Brown ale, Dopplebock and Ditch Digger pale ale to wash down and order of calamari & cheddar onion ale soup. Yum yum!

Druthers Brewing – Albany, NY

Now this is interesting. This is the first brewery we’ve been to that has six beer flights. How exciting is it that we get to try over half their beers in one flight? We were planning on getting something to eat so we decided to keep the flight light and balanced with beers starting at a pilsner and ramping up to a DIPA. Nothing too heavy like stouts or darks. Nothing goes better with Monkey Bread than a flight of Golden Rule blonde ale, Saratoga Vibes pils, Wee Heavy Scotish ale, Uncurious NEIPA, Double The Reason DIPA and All-In american IPA. All the beers were great except the pils was a little fruity with its hints of coriander, lemon and lime – almost like a Corona.

Fort Orange Brewing – Albany, NY

After a day of driving, its nice to wind-down at a brewery and take in a scenic view of New York. We got a little outside the box with our flight that included a Peanut Butter stout and a Blue Berry Blonde ale along with a Momentum pale ale and a Timber west coast IPA. The blueberry was a bit sour but the peanutbutter was a direct hit.

Bissell Brothers Brewing – Portland, ME

So we have set a new record: six breweries in one day and we can still blog about it. However, our livers are no longer speaking to us – oh well! The last stop of the day is at a wildly popular brewery hopping with music and a line 6 deep to get a beer from their 10 beer menu. We drank The Substance Ale IPA and Baby Genius blonde ale. Beer good – food not so good. We also tried their chicken wings and brat: wing sauce was Frank’s watered down and the sausage casing was so tough we had to remove it. Yuck!
